California Rail Builders Utility Relocation
Tulare/Kern County, CA
California Rail Builders (CRB) is the design-builder for the California High Speed Rail (HSR) Construction Package 4 (CP 4). Construction Package 4 consists of a 22-mile long segment between the Tulare/Kern County line on the north and Shafter on the south. This segment includes at-grade rail, retained fill rail, and aerial rail segments. As the rail alignment traverses this area, it crosses multiple agricultural water districts and thus impacts multiple civil infrastructure projects including items such as gravity pipelines, transmission pipelines, canals, and pump stations. Impacted utilities include those operated by North Kern Water Storage District (NKWSD), Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District (SWID), and Semitropic Water Storage District.
Expertise
MKN was retained by the CRB design-build team to lead the effort of relocating multiple water infrastructure elements within SWID and NKWSD. Services rendered include preparing baseline design reports, schematic designs, and construction plans for a 65-cfs canal realignment, multiple 36-inch inverted siphons, two pumped turnouts, large diameter irrigation pipelines, and a measuring weir.
