About MKN:
MKN is seeking a Senior and Principal Electrical & Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer to support the planning, design, and implementation of electrical and control systems for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer with deep expertise in power distribution, control system design, SCADA integration, and process instrumentation. Principal Engineers will be responsible for building and managing a team within MKN that focuses on delivering electrical and control system solutions for public water and wastewater agencies and industrial clients. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound and innovative solutions that serve public agencies and communities throughout California.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of electrical and I&C systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and distribution systems.
- Develop electrical single-line diagrams, panel layouts, grounding and lighting designs, conduit/cable schedules, and control system architecture.
- Provide Title 24 required documentation and certification of compliance (NRCC).
- Specify process instrumentation (flow, pressure, level, analytical, etc.) and support control logic development and system integration.
- Provide SCADA system planning and integration oversight, including network architecture and PLC/HMI coordination with integrators.
- Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit studies, arc flash analysis, and protective device coordination.
- Produce detailed construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for bid and permit packages.
- Support project execution through construction submittal reviews, site inspections, factory acceptance testing, and system commissioning and startup.
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams, integrators, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to MKN’s technical standards and design practices.
- Assist with proposal development and contribute to business development efforts within the Electrical/I&C discipline.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline (master’s preferred).
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems
- 10+ years of relevant experience in electrical and I&C design for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Proven experience of low and medium-voltage power systems, motor control, VFDs, MCCs, emergency power systems, and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA).
- Familiarity with control systems architecture, PLC/HMI platforms, telemetry, and SCADA integration.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and analysis software (ETAP, SKM, or similar).
- Proven experience with I&C specifications and process instrumentation in water/wastewater environments.
- Excellent communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and demonstrated ability to manage schedules and budgets.
- Experience in construction support, including fieldwork, testing, and commissioning.

Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. Anticipated salary range: $150,000 – $210,000. MKN offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, and support for licensure, continuing education, and training.
